New Delhi 21st January :Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will begin a two-day visit to Uttarakhand from Wednesday, with a packed schedule covering religious, cultural, healthcare, and social programmes in Rishikesh and Haridwar. The visit is being seen as politically and socially significant, reflecting the Union government’s emphasis on development anchored in Indian traditions, spirituality, and public welfare.
Senior state officials said the visit underlines the Centre’s focus on strengthening institutions linked to Indian culture while also expanding critical infrastructure such as healthcare in pilgrimage regions.
Rishikesh programme: Focus on culture and literature
On the first day of his visit, Amit Shah will participate in a major cultural event in Rishikesh. At 2:45 p.m., he is scheduled to arrive at Gita Bhavan in Swargashram to attend the release ceremony of the centenary edition of Kalyan, the monthly magazine published by the renowned Gita Press.
Kalyan has been a cornerstone of Indian religious and cultural discourse for decades, promoting spiritual values, ethical living, and Indian philosophical thought. During the ceremony, the Home Minister is expected to reflect on the magazine’s hundred-year journey and acknowledge the historic contribution of Gita Press in preserving and disseminating India’s civilisational heritage.
Healthcare boost at Patanjali Yogpeeth
On Thursday, January 22, Amit Shah will travel to Haridwar, where his first engagement will be at Maharshi Dayanand Gram in Patanjali Yogpeeth at 10:00 a.m. He will inaugurate the Patanjali Emergency and Critical Care Hospital.
The new facility is expected to significantly enhance emergency and critical care services in the region, benefiting both local residents and the large number of pilgrims who visit Haridwar annually. Officials said the hospital will help bridge gaps in advanced medical care and reduce dependence on distant urban centres.
Visit to Gayatri Teerth Shantikunj
At 10:45 a.m., the Union Minister will visit Gayatri Teerth Shantikunj, where he will offer prayers at the Akhanda Jyoti and interact with members of the Gayatri Parivar. The Gayatri movement is widely known for its work in spiritual education, social reform, and moral upliftment.
His visit is expected to highlight the role of spiritual institutions in nation-building and community service.
Centenary celebrations at Bairagi Island
Later in the day, Amit Shah will attend a large public programme at Bairagi Island, Haridwar, organised to mark the birth centenary of Param Vandaniya Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma and the Akhanda Deep Centenary Year.
The ‘Centenary Year Celebration 2026’ is expected to draw devotees and dignitaries from across India and abroad. Shah will address the gathering and is likely to commend the Gayatri Parivar for its sustained contributions to social awakening, spiritual discipline, and national consciousness.
