Hyderabad, 20th Jan: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has approached Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) seeking criminal action against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of making “highly inflammatory, hate-inducing and violence-inciting” remarks against former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and the BRS during a public rally in Khammam on January 18.

A senior BRS delegation met the DGP and submitted a detailed complaint alleging that the Chief Minister grossly misused his constitutional office by calling for the BRS to be “buried in 100-metre pits” and its presence in villages to be “demolished.” The party said such language went beyond political rhetoric and amounted to criminal intimidation and promotion of enmity between groups.

In its complaint, BRS argued that when such statements come from the state’s highest executive authority, they could embolden unlawful elements, provoke violence, and disrupt public order — particularly in politically sensitive rural areas. The party warned that the remarks could be interpreted by supporters as a license to harass, attack, or socially boycott BRS leaders and workers.

The BRS further said the comments were aimed at humiliating KCR, whom it described as the “architect of Telangana statehood” and a leader respected by lakhs of people associated with the Telangana movement. Targeting him in this manner, the party said, hurt public sentiments and weakened the state’s democratic culture.

Invoking Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution, the BRS maintained that political workers are entitled to equal protection under law and the right to live with dignity irrespective of party affiliation. The complaint also cited Supreme Court rulings — including Pravasi Bhalai Sangathan vs Union of India and Tehseen Poonawalla vs Union of India — which emphasize that persons in authority bear a higher responsibility in their public speech.

The party demanded immediate registration of an FIR against the Chief Minister, preservation of all video, audio, and social media records of the speech, and strict monitoring to prevent any attacks on BRS cadres. It also sought statewide protection for its leaders and workers.

BRS cautioned that ignoring such statements would set a dangerous precedent, asserting that the issue transcends partisan politics and concerns the protection of constitutional values, rule of law, and democratic accountability in Telangana.
