New Delhi, 19th Jan: The election for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s next national president moved decisively toward closure on Monday, with 37 sets of nomination papers filed in favour of senior leader Nitin Nabin, virtually clearing the path for his elevation to the top organisational post.

Of these, 36 nomination sets came from various states and Union Territories, while one was submitted by the BJP National Council and Parliamentary Party. This key nomination carried the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, outgoing party president JP Nadda and 20 other senior central leaders as proposers. Party sources said each nomination paper was signed by 20 proposers.

The nomination window closes at 4 pm, with a withdrawal period open between 5 pm and 6 pm. Barring any unexpected withdrawals, Nabin’s election is expected to be a formality.

His rise comes as the culmination of Organisation Parv 2024, the BJP’s constitutionally mandated internal election process that began at the booth level and progressed upward through mandals, districts, states and finally the national tier.

According to party data, elections have been completed for 7,88,197 Booth Presidents out of 10,70,462 booths nationwide. Additionally, 89,47,845 Booth Committee members have been constituted so far, marking about 74 per cent completion at the grassroots.

At the mandal level, elections are finished in 16,469 of 17,743 mandals. An age limit of below 45 years was introduced for several posts to promote younger leadership, with overall progress touching 93 per cent.

District-level polls have seen presidents elected in 978 of 1,036 districts (94 per cent completion), while State President elections are complete in 30 of 37 organisational states.

For State Councils, 4,932 of 6,384 members have been elected so far (80 per cent). At the national level, elections for National Council members are concluded in 741 of 815 seats (92 per cent).

Based on these results, the BJP has constituted its Electoral College as per party rules — comprising 35 nominated Parliamentary Party members, 741 elected National Council members, and 4,932 State Council members, totalling 5,708 electors.

On Tuesday at 11 am, around 700 representatives are expected to assemble at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. Prime Minister Modi will attend the meeting, where the party is likely to formally announce Nitin Nabin as its new National President, bringing Organisation Parv 2024 to a close.
