Guwahati/New Delhi, 19th Jan: The Office of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday strongly rejected media reports claiming that an internal rift within the Assam BJP had reached New Delhi through a letter allegedly written by him to the party’s national leadership.
In an official clarification, the Minister’s office stated that the purported letter — which reportedly sought a leadership change in Assam and made allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma — is “completely fake, fabricated and forged.” It said the document carries a forged official letterhead and a fake signature of the Union Minister.
The office said the circulation of such fraudulent material amounts to a serious criminal offence involving forgery, impersonation and misuse of official government identity, allegedly aimed at spreading misinformation and discrediting a constitutional authority.
An FIR has been registered in connection with the matter, and law enforcement agencies have been requested to investigate the case on priority and take strict legal action against those responsible for creating and circulating the fake letter.
Rejecting all claims made in the reports, the Minister’s office clarified that there is “no truth whatsoever” in allegations of internal rivalry within the Assam BJP or any such correspondence attributed to Sarbananda Sonowal.
The public and media have been advised not to rely on or circulate unverified and fake material and to confirm information only through official and authorised channels.
