New Delhi, 16th Jan: In view of the evolving security situation in Iran, the Union government has initiated preparations to facilitate the safe return of Indian citizens residing there.
Sources said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in coordination with Indian missions in Iran, is assessing ground realities and exploring possible evacuation arrangements if required. Officials are in regular touch with the Indian Embassy in Tehran to monitor developments and ensure the safety of Indian nationals.
The government is particularly concerned about Indian students pursuing higher education in Iran. Plans are being drawn up to bring them back to India in a phased and orderly manner, depending on the situation on the ground and travel feasibility.
It is learnt that contingency measures, including possible special flights and coordination with international carriers, are being considered. Indian citizens in Iran have also been advised to remain in touch with the embassy and follow official advisories.
The Centre has reiterated that the safety of Indian nationals abroad remains its top priority and that all necessary steps will be taken as the situation unfolds.
