New Delhi, 13th Jan: Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday inaugurated the Drug Free Campus Campaign at the University of Delhi, calling for sustained national efforts to safeguard youth from substance abuse and strengthen the foundation of a developed and self-reliant India.
Addressing students and faculty, the Vice-President said universities are not just centres of education but institutions that shape values, leadership and the nation’s future. He stressed that when a premier institution like Delhi University takes a firm stand against drugs, it sends a powerful message across society.
During the event, Radhakrishnan launched a dedicated e-pledge platform and mobile application under the Nasha Mukt Parisar Abhiyaan and urged students across the country to take a pledge for drug-free campuses. He also called upon Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan to integrate the Drug Free Campus Campaign into all Central Higher Educational Institutions.
Highlighting India’s demographic advantage, the Vice-President warned that substance abuse is not just a personal issue but a serious public health, social and national security concern, noting its links with narco-terrorism and declining academic performance.
He said that the vision of Viksit Bharat can be realised only when youth remain healthy, drug-free and purpose-driven. Referring to India’s cultural ethos, he highlighted the importance of self-discipline, mental balance, yoga and meditation, and praised national initiatives aimed at youth development.
Commending Delhi University for its awareness drives, counselling mechanisms and student-led initiatives, the Vice-President expressed confidence that the university would emerge as a model drug-free campus, contributing to the goal of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
The event was attended by Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Delhi Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, senior officials, faculty members and students.
