Hyderabad, 5th Jan: Telangana Jagruthi president and former BRS MLC K. Kavitha has intensified her attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), indirectly targeting senior leader and former irrigation minister Harish Rao over the party’s Assembly boycott and key water-sharing decisions.
Calling the boycott a “grave political blunder,” Kavitha said staying away from the Assembly weakened the opposition’s ability to challenge what she termed misleading claims of the ruling Congress government, particularly on the Krishna river water-sharing issue.
She questioned who signed away Telangana’s three per cent share of Krishna waters and why allocations for major irrigation projects like Palamuru–Rangareddy and Narayanpet–Kodangal were reduced under the previous BRS government.
Raising concerns over Karnataka’s decision to increase the height of the Almatti dam, Kavitha warned that Telangana could lose nearly 100 TMC of water, which would severely impact irrigation and drinking water supply in the state.
Kavitha also alleged widespread corruption in Suryapet district, citing illegal sand mining, land encroachments, stalled irrigation works, water shortages, pollution of the Krishna river and misuse of public funds. She demanded immediate administrative intervention.
Clarifying her stand, Kavitha said she holds no personal grudge against any leader and reiterated that her fight is only against corruption, irrespective of who is in power. She admitted that mistakes were made during the previous BRS regime and stressed the need for leaders to own up and correct them.
She added that she resigned as BRS MLC on moral grounds and will continue her district tours under Telangana Jagruthi to raise people’s issues and expose corruption “fearlessly,” even as BRS leaders continue to target the Congress government.
