Chennai, 3rd Jan: Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday inaugurated the 9th Siddha Day Celebrations in Chennai, paying homage to Sage Agathiyar and underlining the enduring relevance of the Siddha system of medicine in contemporary healthcare.
Extending greetings to Siddha physicians, researchers and students, the Vice President described Siddha as a living tradition deeply rooted in India’s civilisational wisdom, offering a holistic approach that balances body, mind and nature.
He said traditional systems such as Siddha, Ayurveda, Unani and Yoga are not relics of the past but time-tested practices that continue to benefit millions. Stressing Siddha’s strength in addressing the root causes of diseases, he noted its integrative approach offers hope for comprehensive healing, particularly amid rising lifestyle disorders and environmental challenges.
Calling for greater collaboration between researchers, practitioners and academic institutions, Shri Radhakrishnan urged scientific documentation, modernisation and global sharing of Siddha knowledge while preserving its ethical and philosophical foundations. He encouraged young researchers to pursue scientific studies in Siddha to find solutions for diseases considered incurable.
The Vice President also emphasised the need to integrate traditional wisdom with modern science to build a healthier and sustainable society. Earlier, he visited an exhibition organised by the Ministry of Ayush showcasing Siddha manuscripts, herbal medicines and raw materials.
The celebrations, themed “Siddha for Global Health”, were jointly organised by the National Institute of Siddha, the Central Council for Research in Siddha and the Government of Tamil Nadu.
