Faridabad, 31st Dec: A 28-year-old married woman was gang-raped in a moving van for over two hours in Faridabad and later thrown onto the road in the early hours of Tuesday, in a crime that has sent shockwaves across the city.
The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday when the woman was waiting for a vehicle to return home. According to police, a van stopped and two young men offered to drop her home. Instead of heading towards her destination, the vehicle moved towards Gurgaon Road.
Investigators said the woman remained inside the van for around two-and-a-half hours, during which the accused allegedly continued to assault her. Despite her repeated protests, the men allegedly threatened her and did not stop. At around 3 am, she was pushed out of the moving van near Raja Chowk in the SGM Nagar area.
The victim suffered severe facial injuries and was bleeding heavily. She repeatedly tried calling her sister. When her sister returned the call and learnt about the incident, family members rushed to the spot and shifted the woman to a hospital. Doctors said she required 10 to 12 stitches on her face. While her condition is now stable, she remains in shock and her statement is yet to be recorded.
In her complaint, the victim’s sister stated that the woman had spoken to her the previous evening around 8.30 pm, saying she had an argument at home and was going to a friend’s place, and that she would return within three hours.
The woman is married, has three children and lives separately from her husband due to a domestic dispute.
Police said both accused have been arrested and the van used in the crime has been recovered. Further investigation is underway.
