Thiruvananthapuram, 30th Dec: The Vice-President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, on Tuesday participated as the Chief Guest at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Mar Ivanios College, marking 75 years of the institution’s contribution to education and nation-building.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President said institutions like Mar Ivanios College demonstrate the transformative power of education in liberating society from ignorance and inequality. He observed that when educational and spiritual institutions align with constitutional values, they play a decisive role in strengthening national unity and social harmony.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, Shri Radhakrishnan said that India stands at a defining moment in history and that the youth are not merely waiting for the future but are actively shaping it. He stressed that a developed India will be built not only in corridors of power, but also in classrooms, laboratories, farms, factories, start-ups and villages by the aspirations and energy of young Indians.

Highlighting the impact of the National Education Policy 2020, the Vice-President said the policy marks a transformational shift from rote learning to multidisciplinary education, critical thinking, creativity and innovation, which are essential for achieving the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

He further urged educational campuses to evolve into centres of innovation and entrepreneurship, encouraging students to become job creators rather than job seekers. Emphasising the responsible use of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Natural Language Processing, he called for innovation guided by ethics, constitutional values and social good.

The Vice-President also lauded Kerala’s achievements in education and literacy, saying they reflect the collective commitment of the state’s people and institutions to empowering youth through learning.

The event was attended by Kerala Governor Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, Minister for Local Self Government Shri M. B. Rajesh, Member of Parliament Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Mayor Shri V. V. Rajesh, Major Archbishop-Catholicos of Trivandrum His Beatitude Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, and other dignitaries.
