New Delhi, 30th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Prime

Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka, offering condolences to her family and the people of Bangladesh.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was “deeply saddened” by her demise and prayed for strength for her family to bear the tragic loss. He described Begum Zia as a towering leader whose contributions would always be remembered.

Recalling her historic role, PM Modi said that as the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Khaleda Zia made important contributions to the development of the country and to the strengthening of India–Bangladesh relations.

He also recalled his warm meeting with her in Dhaka in 2015 and expressed hope that her vision and legacy would continue to guide the partnership between the two neighbouring nations.

“May her soul rest in peace,” the Prime Minister said, conveying India’s heartfelt sympathies to Bangladesh at this moment of grief.
