‘Housing with Dignity Defines Viksit Bharat’: VP Radhakrishnan in Puducherry

Puducherry, 30th Dec: Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Monday inaugurated a housing project under the Smart Cities Mission in Puducherry and handed over keys of 216 newly constructed tenements to beneficiaries, reaffirming the Government of India’s commitment to inclusive urban development.

Addressing a civic reception organised by various organisations in Puducherry on his maiden visit after assuming office, the Vice-President recalled the Union Territory’s historic and cultural legacy and emphasised the need to preserve and pass on the contributions of freedom fighters to future generations.

He referred to the historic Keezhoor referendum, which led to Puducherry’s merger with India, calling it a reflection of the people’s deep patriotism. He said a house is not merely a physical structure but a foundation of dignity, security and opportunity for families.

The Vice-President appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership in advancing the mission of “Housing for All” and lauded the Puducherry government for completing the project ahead of schedule. He also interacted with beneficiaries at the Kumaraguru Pallam site.

Later, Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Senior Secondary Block of Petit Seminaire CBSE School, highlighting the role of education in nation-building and stating that Viksit Bharat @2047 will be realised through the integration of knowledge, character and service.

In the evening, he unveiled the statue of Mahakavi Subramania Bharatiyar at the Bharatiyar Memorial, paying rich tribute to the legendary poet whose fearless ideas and literary brilliance continue to inspire generations.
