New Delhi, 26th Dec: Indian Railways has rationalised its passenger fare structure with effect from December 26, 2025, aiming to balance passenger affordability with operational sustainability.
Under the revised structure, there will be no change in fares for suburban services and season tickets, covering both suburban and non-suburban routes. For Second Class Ordinary journeys, fares will remain unchanged for distances up to 215 km, ensuring daily commuters are not affected.
For longer Second Class Ordinary journeys, fares will rise in graded slabs—₹5 for distances between 216 km and 750 km, ₹10 for 751 km to 1,250 km, ₹15 for 1,251 km to 1,750 km, and ₹20 for 1,751 km to 2,250 km.
In Sleeper Class Ordinary and First Class Ordinary, fares have been uniformly increased at the rate of one paise per kilometre for non-suburban journeys.
Mail/Express train fares across AC and Non-AC classes have been revised at two paise per kilometre. This includes Sleeper, First Class, AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier and AC First Class. For example, a 500 km journey in a non-AC Mail/Express coach will cost about ₹10 more.
No changes have been made to reservation fees, superfast surcharges or GST applicability. Fare rounding rules also remain unchanged.
The revised fares will apply only to tickets booked on or after December 26, 2025. Tickets booked prior to this date will not attract additional charges even if travel is scheduled later.
Indian Railways said fare charts at stations will be updated accordingly, reiterating its commitment to providing affordable and reliable travel services.
