Shivpuri, 26th Dec: A woman who had accused Rajat Sharma, son of BJP leader and Shivpuri Municipal Council President Gayatri Sharma, of rape attempted suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri by consuming sleeping pills and rat poison, police said on Wednesday.
Her condition deteriorated rapidly and she was rushed to the medical college hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment under medical supervision.
The woman had filed a complaint at the Kotwali police station on April 14, following which an FIR was registered on April 30 under various sections, including rape, against Rajat Sharma. He was later granted bail by the High Court.
Before attempting suicide, the woman wrote a six-page suicide note alleging prolonged mental harassment and intimidation. In the note, she blamed Gayatri Sharma, her husband Sanjay Sharma, and their son Rajat Sharma for pushing her into mental distress.
She claimed that Rajat Sharma had promised to marry her while the family was simultaneously planning his engagement elsewhere. According to the note, his engagement was fixed on April 14, 2025. She alleged that when she approached Gayatri Sharma to discuss marriage, she was abused and threatened.
The woman also alleged that her complaint was initially not registered despite waiting for hours at the police station and that she later faced political pressure to withdraw the case. She further claimed that she was pressured to compromise, including being offered money to resign.
In the suicide note, she appealed for justice from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
