Rewa, 26th Dec: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday addressed a Krishak Sammelan in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, pitching natural farming as a transformative model to raise farmers’ income and protect consumer health.

Shah described Basavan Mama Govansh Van Vihar as a successful experiment in empowering small and marginal farmers, saying the model farm in the Rewa region will guide millions of cultivators and play a pioneering role in promoting natural farming across the country.

He said natural farming, based on the use of cow dung and urine, enables cultivation on up to 21 acres with just one indigenous cow, without chemical fertilisers and pesticides. “This method not only increases farmers’ income and conserves water, but also protects consumers from various diseases,” he said, adding that 40 lakh farmers across the country have already adopted natural farming and are witnessing rising yields.

Highlighting the role of the Ministry of Cooperation, Shah said two large cooperatives have been created to certify, scientifically test, package, market and export organic produce. He said over 400 laboratories will soon certify natural farms and produce, a move expected to raise farmers’ income by one-and-a-half times.

Calling for collective responsibility towards nature, Shah urged people to plant at least five peepal trees, noting that they provide the highest oxygen output.

He also said the Rewa region is rapidly developing, pointing to Asia’s largest solar plant and improved four-lane road connectivity to Prayagraj and Jabalpur.

Marking the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Shah recalled that Rewa was among Vajpayee’s favourite places. He said Vajpayee placed great emphasis on integrity and transparency in public life, adding that leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee were rare, whose words and life complemented each other.
