New Delhi, 24th Dec: Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday highlighted a decade of transformative economic reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi while releasing the book “Economic Empowerment of Bharat in the Modi Era” at the Vice-President’s Enclave.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President said the book, authored by Prof. (Dr.) Sikander Kumar, MP, reflects the bold economic vision and governance reforms that have reshaped India over the past decade.

He said that Bharat has emerged as the fourth largest economy in the world and is currently the fastest-growing major economy globally, attributing this rise to decisive policy reforms and transparent governance.

Highlighting structural reforms, he said initiatives such as insolvency laws, digital governance, and banking reforms eliminated inefficiencies and corruption, turning “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance” into a functioning governance model.

The Vice-President underlined the role of the JAM trinity — Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and Mobile — in enabling Direct Benefit Transfers, noting that more than ₹47 lakh crore has been transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, significantly reducing leakages and enhancing transparency.

Calling the Goods and Services Tax a landmark reform, he said GST transformed India into a unified national market, improved compliance, and strengthened cooperative federalism by simplifying taxation and streamlining goods movement.

He further said initiatives such as Digital India, Make in India, Startup India and UPI have empowered entrepreneurs and citizens, while the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat has strengthened India’s position in global supply chains.

Concluding his address, the Vice-President said India has moved from policy paralysis to purposeful governance and urged citizens to participate in building a confident and self-reliant Viksit Bharat by 2047.
