New Delhi, 24th Dec: The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday summoned and reprimanded its councillor Renu Chaudhary after a video of her threatening an African football coach over language use went viral on social media.
The incident occurred at a government-owned park in East Delhi, where Chaudhary was seen telling the coach to learn Hindi within a month, failing which he would not be allowed to enter the park where he teaches football to local children.
Condemning the councillor’s conduct, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said sports transcend language and national boundaries. “Sports has no language, and the manner in which our councillor behaved was not appropriate. She was made to understand that her conduct was wrong. She expressed regret, apologised, and also uploaded an apology video on social media,” he said.
Sachdeva added that the party has directed the local BJP unit to meet the coach and children at the park to ensure that they are provided with proper facilities and that the matter is resolved amicably.
Earlier, Chaudhary released a video message expressing regret over her remarks. She clarified that it was not her intention to hurt anyone but to address communication issues between the coach and municipal staff. She said several MCD employees are not fluent in English, which sometimes creates difficulties in managing activities in public parks.
The viral video had triggered widespread outrage online, with many users condemning the remarks as insensitive and inappropriate.
