Chandrapur, 23rd Dec: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday emphasised that healthcare services must be affordable and accessible to all, asserting that education and health are the two most basic human needs that should reach every individual, everywhere.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Chandrapur Cancer Hospital, Bhagwat said diseases like cancer do not affect just one person but place immense physical, emotional and financial strain on entire families. He noted that treatment costs, repeated hospital visits and lack of accommodation often make sustained care difficult for patients, especially those from nearby districts.

He praised the efforts of the government and Tata Cancer Institute in expanding cancer care facilities across the country, stating that at least 15 such centres have been established nationwide, including a major cancer hospital in Nagpur. These institutions, he said, are crucial for providing advanced treatment closer to patients’ homes.
Highlighting the importance of decentralised healthcare, Bhagwat welcomed the decision to set up sub-centres to ensure treatment reaches patients who cannot frequently travel due to financial or logistical constraints. He described this approach as a meaningful step towards making healthcare inclusive and people-centric.
Calling upon residents of Chandrapur, Bhagwat urged the local community to extend emotional and moral support to patients and their families. “Service does not require money, only time and empathy,” he said, adding that collective compassion and a sense of belonging can significantly ease the suffering of patients.
Several dignitaries, including Tata Trusts Board member Dr Kailash Sharma, Dr Ajay Chandanwale, Superintendent of Police Sudarshan Mummaka and District Collector Vinay Gowda, were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Describing the opening of a modern cancer treatment centre in Chandrapur as a moment of pride, Bhagwat said the hospital would enhance the district’s reputation while serving as a vital healthcare lifeline for the region.
