New Delhi, 22nd Dec: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Monday hailed the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA), describing it as a new milestone in the Narendra Modi government’s trade diplomacy.

In a post on X, Shah said the agreement reflects the Modi government’s people-centric foreign policy and will open new gateways to prosperity for Indian citizens.

“Modi govt’s trade diplomacy sets a new milestone. India–New Zealand FTA, that brings in $20 billion investment and offers lucrative opportunities for Indian innovators, entrepreneurs, farmers, MSMEs, students, and youth, will open new gateways to prosperity,” Shah wrote.

He added that the agreement is a “textbook example” of how foreign policy under Prime Minister Modi is directly aligned with public welfare and economic aspirations.

The India–New Zealand FTA, jointly announced by the two prime ministers earlier in the day, is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade, enhance market access and strengthen investment flows, while creating fresh opportunities across sectors ranging from agriculture and education to startups and innovation-driven enterprises.

Government sources said the agreement reinforces India’s growing role as a trusted global economic partner and reflects the Centre’s emphasis on translating diplomacy into tangible benefits for citizens.
