New Delhi, 22nd Dec: Flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport were severely disrupted on Monday due to adverse weather conditions and low visibility, with more than 500 flights delayed and at least 14 flights cancelled, officials said.

According to airport authorities, the cancelled services included six arriving flights and eight departures, some of which were international. The disruptions were caused by dense fog, which has been affecting air traffic across northern India for the past several days.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which operates the airport, said that while flight operations were continuing, delays were unavoidable due to reduced visibility and the implementation of low visibility procedures.

Data from flight tracking website Flightradar24 showed that the average delay at the airport was slightly over 30 minutes. The IGI Airport typically handles around 1,300 flights daily, making it the busiest airport in the country.

Aviation officials said weather-related disruptions are expected to persist during the peak winter fog season and advised passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.
