WASHINGTON – India Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Muscat, Oman on Wednesday evening for a two-day official visit, the third and final leg of his 3 nation visit.
Mr Modi is visiting the Gulf nation at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman.
Both leaders are expected to hold bilateral discussions on strengthening the Strategic Partnership and expanding cooperation in commercial and economic sectors.
Mr Modi said in a post on X, “Landed in Muscat, Oman. This is a land of enduring friendship and deep historical connections with India. This visit offers an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration and add fresh momentum to our partnership.”
Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said received PM Modi with warmth at the airport.
Two leaders greeted each other at the airport with a Guard of Honour was accorded to PM Modi as part of his ceremonial welcome.
MEA stated that this will be Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to Oman, underscored the growing depth of the India-Oman strategic partnership.
The visit assumes special significance as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Oman.
It also follows Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s state visit to India in December 2023, reflected the high-level political engagement between the two countries.
Modi is scheduled to hold comprehensive talks with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, focused on the full spectrum of bilateral relations.
The discussions will cover key areas, including trade and investment, energy cooperation, defence and security, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges.
Both leaders will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, MEA stated.
