New Delhi, 17th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday welcomed the Param Vir Gallery at Rashtrapati Bhavan, describing it as a heartfelt tribute to the nation’s indomitable heroes and an expression of India’s gratitude for their supreme sacrifices.
The Prime Minister said the portraits displayed in the gallery honour the brave warriors who laid down their lives to protect the motherland and safeguard the unity and integrity of India. He noted that dedicating the gallery to the nation in the presence of two Param Vir Chakra awardees and the family members of other awardees made the occasion especially meaningful.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, PM Modi recalled that for decades the galleries at Rashtrapati Bhavan displayed portraits of soldiers from the British era. “Now, those have been replaced with portraits of our Param Vir Chakra awardees,” he said, adding that the Param Vir Gallery reflects India’s conscious effort to move away from a colonial mindset and reconnect with a renewed national consciousness. He also mentioned that several islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago have been named after Param Vir Chakra awardees in recent years.
Emphasising its importance for the younger generation, the Prime Minister said the gallery would serve as a powerful space for youth to connect with India’s tradition of valour and courage. He added that the portraits would inspire young minds to recognise the importance of inner strength and resolve in achieving national goals.
Expressing hope for the future, PM Modi said the Param Vir Gallery would emerge as a vibrant place of inspiration, embodying the spirit of a Viksit Bharat and reminding generations of the sacrifices that underpin India’s freedom and sovereignty.
In a series of posts on X, the Prime Minister described the gallery as a “prakhhar teerth” of national pride, paying homage to the Param Virs whose courage continues to inspire the nation.
