New Delhi, 14th Dec: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday announced the appointment of Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its National Working President, with immediate effect, marking a key step in the party’s ongoing organisational transition.
An official order issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh said the appointment was approved by the party’s Parliamentary Board. “The BJP Parliamentary Board has appointed Shri Nitin Nabin, Minister, Government of Bihar, as the National Working President of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” the order stated.
Nitin Nabin currently serves as a minister in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government and holds the Road Construction portfolio. A five-time MLA from the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna, he is considered a prominent organisational leader within the party.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on his elevation, describing him as a young, hardworking and committed party worker. “He has established a distinct identity within the organisation. His work as an MLA and minister in Bihar has been very effective, and he is known for his humble nature and for working on the ground,” the Prime Minister said, expressing confidence that Nabin’s energy and dedication would further strengthen the BJP.
The appointment is widely seen as positioning Nabin to succeed incumbent BJP national president JP Nadda, who was appointed to the post in January 2020 and has completed his original term. Nadda was granted multiple extensions to guide the party through crucial political milestones, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
JP Nadda also congratulated Nabin, calling him a “dynamic BJP leader from Bihar,” and wished him a successful tenure. In a post on X, Nadda said he was confident that under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance and Nabin’s leadership, the organisation would set new benchmarks in nation-building and public service.
Born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Nitin Nabin is the son of late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a veteran BJP leader and former MLA. He entered active politics after his father’s death and steadily rose through the party ranks.
Nabin first entered the Bihar Assembly through a by-election in 2006 and has retained the Bankipur seat in every subsequent election in 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025. In the 2025 Assembly polls, he won by a margin of over 52,000 votes.
Apart from his ministerial responsibilities, Nabin has held several key organisational roles, including national general secretary and state president of the BJP Yuva Morcha, election and organisational in-charge for Sikkim, and senior responsibilities in Chhattisgarh, giving him extensive administrative and organisational experience.
According to his election affidavit filed with the Election Commission in October, Nabin declared assets of around ₹1 crore. The affidavit states that no conviction has been recorded against him, with case-related details disclosed as per election norms.
