WASHINGTON – Russia Today RT India on Saturday deleted a viral video on Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Vladimir Putin, stated it may have misrepresented events at an international forum in Turkmenistan.
A news story went viral on Friday which claimed that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had gate-crashed a closed-door meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after being kept waiting outside for over 40 minutes.
RT India had shared a video showed Pakistani PM Sharif and the country’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar waiting in an adjacent room while Putin and Erdogan held talks.
RT India has deleted that video, stated the post may have been a misrepresentation of the facts.
“We deleted an earlier post about Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif waiting to meet Vladimir Putin at the Peace and Trust Forum in Turkmenistan. The post may have been a misrepresentation of the events,” the broadcaster posted on its X account.
PA PM Sharif was scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Putin on the sidelines of an international forum in Turkmenistan.
The events of this meeting may have taken place differently that what was originally reported.
Sharif and Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir were made to wait for nearly 30 minutes at the White House, as President Trump was occupied with signing executive orders earlier this year.
The meeting between the Pakistani PM and the Russian President came just days after Putin visited India to attend the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
Russia leader held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two day visit to India.
Putin also attended a private dinner at Modi 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence where the two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest for around two hours, according to MEA statement issued then.
