Varanasi, 13th Dec: The fifth batch of delegates from Tamil Nadu, comprising professionals and artisans, visited Hanuman Ghat on Friday as part of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0. The group offered prayers at the ghat, seeking blessings for prosperity and well-being. After taking a holy dip in the Ganga, they toured ancient temples along the ghat, learning about their architectural and historical significance.

The delegation then proceeded to the residence of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, where they interacted with individuals associated with the historic site. The visitors expressed deep interest in understanding Bharati’s life, his literary legacy, and his contribution to India’s freedom movement. They also visited a nearby library and received insights into its historical role in the neighbourhood.

Subramania Bharati, revered as the Rashtra Kavi of Tamil, spent formative years in Kashi, during which he studied Sanskrit, Hindi and English. His residence at Hanuman Ghat remains a cultural landmark drawing scholars and admirers.

Following the visit, the group travelled to Kanchi Math, where they were briefed on the Math’s origins and historical background. Delegates expressed excitement at finding a South Indian temple complex thriving in the heart of Kashi.

Guiding the group, V Chandrasekhar Dravid Ghanapathi highlighted that areas around Kedar Ghat and Hanuman Ghat have been home to South Indian families for several generations—some for as many as ten. He noted that these communities have seamlessly blended local customs with their ancestral traditions, creating a unique cultural synthesis in the ancient city of Lord Shiva.

The delegation will continue participating in Kashi Tamil Sangamam activities and is scheduled to visit Namo Ghat later in the programme.
