Kolhapur, 13th Dec: Union Minister of Communications and Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will chair the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Sammelan in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on December 13, 2025. The event, scheduled to begin at 4 pm, will bring together thousands of frontline postal workers who form the backbone of rural service delivery across India.

The Sammelan aims to recognise the dedication of Gramin Dak Sevaks and highlight their expanding role in connecting remote communities with postal, banking and insurance services offered by India Post. It also serves as a platform for the Minister to share his vision for a modern, citizen-centric postal network that strengthens delivery of government services in rural areas.

Senior officers of the Department of Posts — including Director General Postal Services Jitendra Gupta, Postal Services Board Member (Personnel) Suvendu Kumar Swain, Chief Postmaster General (Maharashtra & Goa Circle) Amitabh Singh, and Directors Postal Services Abhijeet Bansode and Ramesh Patil — will be present at the event.

An estimated 5,500 to 6,000 Gramin Dak Sevaks from the Goa and Pune regions are expected to participate. During the programme, the Minister will directly interact with the GDS workforce, encouraging them to deepen their contribution in areas such as financial inclusion, last-mile delivery, and citizen outreach.

As part of the Sammelan, Scindia will felicitate top-performing GDS personnel for excellence in areas like mail and parcel delivery, acquisition of new postal savings accounts, and procurement of Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) policies. Achievements in direct beneficiary payments in rural areas will also be recognised.

The Sammelan reaffirms the Government’s commitment to transforming India Post into a key driver of rural development, ensuring post offices function as hubs for citizen-centric services and remain integral to the country’s grassroots governance ecosystem.
