Imphal, 12th Dec: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday attended a public function in Senapati, Manipur, where she laid foundation stones and inaugurated several developmental projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving livelihoods in the region.

Addressing the gathering, the President said that ensuring dignity, security and growth opportunities for Manipur’s tribal communities, and enabling their greater participation in national progress, is a top national priority. She noted that the Union Government is working closely with local leaders, civil society and communities to ensure that development in the state is both inclusive and sustainable.

The President highlighted that the Government of India is committed to ensuring that development reaches every corner of the country, with special attention given to remote tribal regions. In recent years, Manipur’s hill districts have seen significant investments in road connectivity—including national highways and rural roads—healthcare, education, drinking water, electricity, and livelihood programmes such as skill training, SHGs and Van Dhan initiatives.

“These efforts reflect the Government’s commitment to supporting tribal communities while respecting their unique identity and traditions,” she said.

Emphasising the state’s rich cultural diversity, President Murmu said that Manipur’s strength lies in its many cultures, languages and traditions, with the hills and valley complementing each other “like two sides of the same beautiful land.” She urged all communities to continue supporting measures that promote peace, understanding and reconciliation.

She reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to the well-being and progress of all people in the state, saying that sustained collective effort is essential for building a peaceful and prosperous Manipur.

Earlier in the day, the President visited the Nupee Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal, where she paid homage to the brave women warriors of Manipur. The memorial honours their historic uprisings, in which Manipuri women challenged colonial and feudal powers with extraordinary courage.
