New Delhi, 12th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condoled the demise of senior Congress leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Shivraj Patil, calling him an experienced parliamentarian who devoted his life to public service.
Patil, who passed away earlier today, held several key positions over his long political career, serving as MLA, MP, Union Minister, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker, and later as Speaker of the Lok Sabha. He was widely respected for his calm demeanour, constitutional understanding and steadfast commitment to democratic values.
In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister said he was deeply saddened by Patil’s passing and recalled their many interactions over the years. “He was passionate about contributing to the welfare of society,” PM Modi said, noting that their most recent meeting took place just a few months ago when Patil visited his residence.
The Prime Minister extended his condolences to the bereaved family, offering prayers for peace. “Om Shanti,” he wrote.
Leaders from across the political spectrum have also begun paying their respects, remembering Shivraj Patil as a dignified statesman who left an enduring mark on India’s parliamentary traditions.
