New Delhi, 10th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Shri C. Rajagopalachari on his birth anniversary, describing him as a towering freedom fighter, thinker, intellectual and statesman whose influence shaped India’s early years as an independent nation.

Modi said Rajaji, widely regarded as one of the sharpest minds of the 20th century, dedicated his life to creating value, upholding human dignity and contributing meaningfully to public life. He noted that the nation remembers Rajaji’s enduring contributions to the freedom struggle and governance with deep gratitude.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Freedom fighter, thinker, intellectual, statesman… these are some descriptions that come to the mind when one recalls Shri C. Rajagopalachari. Tributes to him on his birth anniversary. He remains one of the sharpest minds of the 20th century, who believed in creating value and upholding human dignity. Our nation remembers his enduring contributions with gratitude.”

Modi also shared archival material, including a photograph of a young Rajaji, the notification of his appointment as a Cabinet Minister, an image with volunteers from the 1920s, and a 1922 edition of Young India edited by Rajaji while Mahatma Gandhi was in jail.

Rajagopalachari, popularly known as Rajaji, was the last Governor-General of India and a central figure in the nation’s political, intellectual and moral discourse. His contributions continue to inspire generations of leaders and thinkers.
