Washington, 9th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured swift humanitarian assistance to 99-year-old Smt. Munni Bahen Joshi, widow of Indian freedom fighter Shri Kishan Joshi, after an appeal was made to help her complete her pension-related formalities from her hospital bed in the United States.

Smt. Joshi, who is currently under round-the-clock care at Oak Manor Health Center in Maryland, was due to submit her pension life certificate—a mandatory document for her regular pension disbursed through Bank of Baroda, Mumbai.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister on November 25, Dr. Vijay Jolly mentioned Smt. Joshi’s condition and requested urgent intervention, noting her inability to visit any office due to her health. Her son, Swarup Joshi, and NRI community leader Satish Gupta were listed as local contacts for coordination.

Responding to the appeal, the Embassy of India in Washington DC deputed officials to the nursing facility. Mr. Alok Srivastava, Counsellor (Attache), accompanied by Jeetendra Singh, visited Oak Manor Health Center to complete all required life certificate documentation.

In a touching gesture, embassy officials also presented a bouquet on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, honouring the contributions of the freedom fighter’s family.

NRI coordinator Satish Gupta expressed gratitude, noting that the effort was made possible after Dr. Vijay Jolly raised the matter with the PMO. He described the gesture as a deeply humane act toward a family that had contributed to India’s struggle for independence.

The intervention ensured that Smt. Munni Bahen Joshi’s pension process remains uninterrupted, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting freedom fighters and their families—even across international borders.
