New Delhi, 5th Dec: The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, has enabled the Passport Verification Record (PVR) on the DigiLocker platform, offering citizens secure, paperless access to an important official document.
DigiLocker, a cloud-based service under the Digital India initiative, allows digital issuance, storage, sharing and verification of government documents. With the new integration, citizens who have completed passport verification can now retrieve their PVR directly in the “Issued Documents” section of their DigiLocker account.
Officials said the move significantly simplifies document management, reduces dependence on physical records and ensures that verification processes become faster and more efficient across sectors such as travel, employment and compliance.
The PVRs are issued digitally by authorised government systems, making them tamper-proof, authentic and instantly verifiable. Citizens can securely share their records with authorised institutions through consent-based digital workflows, eliminating the need for photocopies or repeated submissions.
The initiative also furthers India’s push for paperless and environmentally responsible governance by shifting passport-related verification into a fully digital process.
The government said the integration marks a major milestone in modernising citizen services, strengthening digital public infrastructure and advancing a “citizen-first” approach that improves transparency and trust. Millions of passport applicants and holders are expected to benefit through faster access, reduced paperwork and improved service turnaround times.
