New Delhi, 5th Dec: Digi Yatra, India’s decentralised, privacy-by-design digital travel identity platform, has crossed 19 million downloads and facilitated more than 77 million seamless passenger journeys across 24 airports, the company said on Thursday. Adoption of the platform has now reached 30 per cent, with a target of achieving 80 per cent by 2028.

In its latest update, the Digi Yatra Foundation announced preparations for global interoperability by 2026, positioning the platform to integrate with international aviation systems. The foundation has also started a beta rollout of six regional languages through its partnership with Bhashini, with plans to extend support to all 22 Indian languages to improve accessibility and user experience.

Digi Yatra is piloting electronic passport-based enrollment for international travellers after registering its first global user. This initiative aims to enable expats, NRIs and foreign passengers to undergo digital identity verification instead of manual checks. The platform is working closely with the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, the Bureau of Immigration, ICAO and IATA under the OneID programme to establish a framework for passport and visa-based credential sharing, automated border control and international pilot trials slated for the next financial year.

In addition to identity management, Digi Yatra is expanding its service ecosystem. It now supports direct boarding pass sharing from IndiGo, Air India and MakeMyTrip, reducing friction during airport travel. Plans are underway to extend Digi Yatra’s privacy-focused identity system beyond airports — subject to approvals — enabling secure hotel check-ins and automated access using encrypted credentials and biometric authentication.

The platform is also exploring integration at museums, monuments and tourist attractions to streamline entry management, particularly in areas prone to long queues or poor connectivity. International expansion could eventually simplify travel for Indians abroad while strengthening India’s tourism footprint.

Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of the Digi Yatra Foundation, said the platform’s rapid growth marks “a new chapter in India’s digital travel story.” He added: “Our multilingual rollout and international pilot programme reflect our commitment to making travel simpler, more inclusive and globally interoperable. With strong support from ministries and partner agencies, we are confident that the coming years will bring faster progress than expected.”

Digi Yatra operates on a decentralised, privacy-by-design framework, ensuring user data protection and compliance with global digital identity standards. The foundation said these advancements aim to shape a seamless, secure and passenger-driven future for travel and hospitality in India.
