Rotary Club Distributes 100 Wheelchairs on International Day of Persons with Disabilities

New Delhi, 3rd Dec: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was observed in New Delhi on Wednesday through an inclusive outreach initiative led by the Rotary Club of Delhi Safdarjung in association with the Delhi Study Group. At a public programme held at Arya Samaj Mandir in Greater Kailash, 100 wheelchairs were distributed to individuals with physical disabilities. The event began with the National Anthem, and food and juice were served to all participants.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Dr Vijay Jolly, President of the Delhi Study Group, and Rotary District Governor Rtn. Dr Ravi Gugnani reaffirmed their long-standing commitment to social welfare. They emphasised that mobility is a basic right and said the wheelchair distribution would help beneficiaries regain independence and participate more actively in daily activities. Both leaders stressed the need for continuous public awareness and community engagement to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities.

This year’s IDPD theme—“Advancing Access and Dignity for All”—was highlighted throughout the programme, underscoring the collective responsibility to build an inclusive and accessible society.

The event saw participation from chairpersons, volunteers and local community leaders. Beneficiaries included individuals from low-income backgrounds who often face mobility challenges due to financial constraints.

Among those present were Rtn. Teena Kapoor, Club President; Rtn. Tejinder Singh, Club Secretary; Rtn. Shobha Tuli, Chairman Community Service; Asst. Governor Rtn. Dr Madhumati Singh; DGN Rtn. Dr Pushpa Sethi; IPDG Rtn. Mahesh Trikha; PDG Rtn. Ramesh; and District Secretary Rtn. Sandeep Wadhwa. From the Delhi Study Group, Secretary Lion Ram Gopal Goyal, Executive Secretary Vijendar Yadav, Social Media Convener Shalu Kumari and Secretary Heera Majoka attended.
