PM Modi Assures Full Support to Sri Lanka After Cyclone Ditwah

PM speaks with President Dissanayake; India extends assistance under Operation Sagar Bandhu

New Delhi, 2nd Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation on Monday with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, expressing deep condolences over the loss of lives and widespread destruction in the island nation following Cyclone Ditwah.

The Prime Minister conveyed India’s solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka during this crisis and highlighted that rescue teams and relief materials were swiftly deployed as part of India’s ongoing assistance.

President Dissanayake expressed heartfelt gratitude for India’s timely and effective response, noting that both the government and the people of Sri Lanka greatly appreciated the support extended in the immediate aftermath of the cyclone.

Assuring continued help, PM Modi said India would persist with rescue and relief operations under Operation Sagar Bandhu. He reaffirmed that India, guided by Vision MAHASAGAR and its established role as the region’s ‘First Responder’, would provide all necessary assistance as Sri Lanka moves into rehabilitation, restoration of public services, and livelihood recovery across affected regions.

Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as relief and restoration efforts progress.
