New Delhi, 25th Nov: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced that over 50,000 lost and stolen mobile phones were recovered across India through its digital safety platform Sanchar Saathi in October 2025 — the highest-ever monthly figure. The initiative has now enabled more than 7 lakh device recoveries nationwide, marking a major advancement in citizen digital security.
Karnataka and Telangana emerged as the top-performing states, each crossing 1 lakh handset recoveries, while Maharashtra followed with over 80,000. Monthly recoveries recorded a 47% surge between June and October 2025, reflecting the system’s accelerating efficiency. With Sanchar Saathi’s integrated mechanism, India is now recovering over one lost phone every minute.
At the core of this progress is an indigenously developed platform built with automated workflows and real-time device tracking. When a SIM is inserted into a reported handset, the system instantly alerts both the registered user and the local police station. This rapid-response architecture helps prevent misuse and speeds up recovery.
The success is driven by strong coordination between state police forces, the DoT’s Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU) and field formations (LSAs). Regular training programmes and active partnerships with State/UT police teams have strengthened on-ground recovery operations and enhanced citizen services.
The DoT has urged citizens to download the Sanchar Saathi app, which allows users to block or report lost and stolen devices, verify new or second-hand phones, report fraudulent calls or messages, and check trusted contact details of banks and financial institutions.
Sanchar Saathi continues to reinforce citizen protection under the Digital India vision, demonstrating the transformative potential of technology-led governance and responsive policing.
