New Delhi, 25th Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park, SEZ, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, on 26 November at 10 AM through video conferencing.
SAESI is Safran’s dedicated Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) centre for LEAP engines, which power major commercial aircraft including the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX. The facility marks a major milestone for India’s aviation ecosystem, as it is the first time a global aircraft engine original equipment manufacturer has established an MRO operation in the country.
Spread across 45,000 square metres, the advanced facility has been developed with an investment of around ₹1,300 crore. Once fully operational by 2035, it will employ more than 1,000 highly skilled Indian technicians and engineers and will be capable of servicing up to 300 LEAP engines annually. The centre will be equipped with modern process systems to deliver global-standard engine maintenance and repair.
The establishment of SAESI is expected to significantly strengthen India’s push towards Aatmanirbharta in the aviation sector. Indigenous MRO capabilities will reduce foreign exchange outflows, generate high-value technical employment and build a resilient supply chain while positioning India as a global aviation hub.
The Government of India has been working to create an enabling environment for MRO growth. Policy initiatives—including GST rationalisation in 2024, MRO Guidelines 2021 and the National Civil Aviation Policy 2016—have simplified procedures and eased tax and royalty burdens for MRO service providers.
