New Delhi, 21st Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday departed for the Republic of South Africa to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled from November 21 to 23 in Johannesburg. The visit comes at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

In his departure statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi said the summit would be “particularly special” as it marks the first G20 meeting to be hosted in Africa. The African Union formally joined the Group of Twenty during India’s Presidency in 2023.

The Prime Minister noted that South Africa has continued the momentum built during the New Delhi and Rio de Janeiro Summits, with this year’s theme focusing on “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability”. He added that India will present its perspective guided by the vision of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and the approach of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

Modi said he looks forward to engaging with leaders of partner countries and participating in the 6th India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Summit on the sidelines of the G20 deliberations.

During his stay, the Prime Minister will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora in South Africa, which he highlighted as one of the largest overseas Indian communities globally.
