New Delhi, 19th Nov: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday graced the fifth convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Delhi in the national capital, calling on premier technical institutions to lead India’s transformation into a digitally empowered developed nation.

Addressing graduating students, the President said NIT Delhi has rapidly built a strong national reputation through modern infrastructure, academic excellence, and a focus on multidisciplinary research. She noted that the institute’s emphasis on innovation, enterprise collaboration, and skill-based learning is preparing students to meet future challenges.

She welcomed the establishment of a start-up centre and an upcoming incubation facility on the campus, stating that such initiatives will provide vital resources and expert guidance to nurture student entrepreneurs. These efforts, she added, would foster a culture of self-employment and technological leadership.

Highlighting India’s progress through national missions such as Digital India, Make in India, Start-up India, Skill India, Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, the President said the country is advancing confidently toward the goal of a developed India through inclusive growth and sustainable development.

She emphasised that higher technical institutions like NITs can play a crucial role in shaping “model digital villages” by creating easy-to-use technology, imparting digital skills to rural communities, and partnering with industry to improve local services.

Calling the graduating students vital contributors to the nation’s scientific workforce, President Murmu encouraged them to pursue continual learning and show courage in developing new technologies. True progress, she stressed, lay not only in invention but in its real-world impact.

Whether in sustainable energy, accessible tools, or solutions for rural and underprivileged sections, she urged young engineers to ensure their ideas reduce inequalities and bring hope to people’s lives, expressing confidence they would make both NIT Delhi and the nation proud.
