Patna, 14th Nov: Early trends from the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections show a strong performance by the Janata Dal (United)’s Muslim candidates, with three out of four currently leading in their constituencies. Counting began at 8 am with postal ballots, while EVM counting started at 8:30 am across 46 centres in 38 districts.
As per Election Commission data at 10:20 am, Manzar Alam is leading in Jokihat, Shagufta Azim in Araria, and Mohd Zama Khan in Chainpur. The only trailing JDU candidate at this hour is Saba Zafar, who is behind AIMIM’s Akhtarul Iman in Amour.
The Bihar election is a major test for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the state’s longest-serving leader, amid debates over anti-incumbency and his political shifts.
By 10:40 am, the BJP was leading in 85 seats, the JDU in 76, LJP (Ram Vilas) in 22, and HAM in 4. On the other side, the RJD was ahead in 34, Congress in 6, VIP in 1, and Left parties in 8 seats.
With the NDA leading in 190 constituencies compared to the INDIA bloc’s 48, early trends indicate a decisive mandate in favour of the ruling alliance. Nitish Kumar appears well-positioned to return as Chief Minister for a record tenth term.
Bihar registered a historic 67.13 per cent voter turnout in the two-phase election held on November 6 and 11, with 7.45 crore voters determining the fate of 2,616 candidates across 243 assembly seats.
