Bihar Polls Phase 2: 31.38% Voter Turnout Recorded Till 11 AM

Voting underway across 122 constituencies; key ministers from JD(U) and BJP test their electoral strength

Patna, 11th Nov: The second phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 witnessed an approximate voter turnout of 31.38% till 11:00 AM, according to the Election Commission. Voting began at 7:00 AM across 122 constituencies in 20 districts and will continue till 5:00 PM.

This phase is crucial for the Nitish Kumar-led government, as 12 ministers from his cabinet are in the electoral fray. The outcome is expected to shape the balance of power in the state’s political landscape.

Among the JD(U) candidates are Vijendra Yadav (Supaul), Lesi Singh (Dhamdaha), Jayant Kushwaha (Amarpur), Sumit Singh (Chakai), Mohammad Jama Khan (Chainpur), and Sheela Mandal (Phoolparas).

From the BJP, ministers including Prem Kumar (Gaya), Renu Devi (Bettiah), Vijay Kumar Mandal (Sikati), Nitish Mishra (Jhanjharpur), Neeraj Bablu (Chhatapur), and Krishnanandan Paswan (Harsiddhi) are contesting.

A total of 1,302 candidates, including 136 women and one third-gender candidate, are vying for seats in this phase. The electorate of 3.7 crore voters will decide their fate in what is being seen as a decisive round of polling.

According to official data, Kishanganj recorded the highest voter turnout so far at 34.74%, followed by Gaya (34.07%), Jamui (33.69%), Aurangabad (32.88%), Banka (32.91%), Purnia (32.94%), and Paschim Champaran (32.39%). The lowest turnout was reported from Madhubani, at 28.66%.

Polling is being held amid tight security arrangements, with central forces deployed to ensure peaceful voting. Long queues were reported at several polling stations, indicating strong voter enthusiasm despite moderate morning temperatures.
