Gaya, 5th Nov: NDA candidate and sitting MLA from Barachatti, Jyoti Manjhi, was injured when unidentified men attacked her convoy during an election campaign in Gaya district on Tuesday.

Reports said stones were thrown at her vehicle while she was canvassing with supporters. Manjhi, who represents Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM), sustained head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Police reached the spot soon after the incident and began an investigation. Authorities said the attackers would be identified and punished. “No one will be spared,” officials said.

BJP and HAM leaders strongly condemned the assault, calling it an attempt to create fear ahead of the elections, and demanded immediate arrests.

The attack occurred on the eve of the first phase of voting in Bihar. Barachatti will go to polls in the second phase on November 11.

Jyoti Manjhi, a relative of former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, is seeking re-election from Barachatti. Her daughter is married to the HAM chief’s son.

Under the NDA seat-sharing arrangement, HAM has been allocated six constituencies — Imamganj, Tikari, Barachatti, Atri, Sikandra, and Kutumba. The NDA has divided Bihar’s 243 seats with 101 each to BJP and JD(U), while 41 seats were shared among LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
