Bilaspur, 4th Nov:
Six people were killed when a Korba passenger train rammed into a stationary freight train near the Lal Khadan area on the Bilaspur-Katni section in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district on Tuesday.

The collision was so powerful that the front compartments of the passenger train were completely destroyed. Visuals from the site showed mangled coaches and the crushed engine, while rescue teams continued efforts to locate trapped passengers.

Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), railway authorities, and the district administration reached the accident site soon after the crash. An infant was among those rescued safely. Doctors treated several injured passengers inside the train due to blocked access for evacuation.

The collision caused severe damage to overhead electrical lines and signaling systems, halting rail services along the route. Several express and passenger trains were cancelled or diverted, while alternative transport was arranged for stranded passengers.

Railway officials said that technical teams were working overnight to restore traffic and repair damaged infrastructure. Preliminary findings suggest a possible signaling failure or human error as the cause of the mishap.
