Patna, 4th Nov: The Patna District Administration has lodged an FIR against Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and Janata Dal (United) leader Lalan Singh (Rajiv Ranjan Singh) after reviewing video footage that suggested violations of the election process.

Officials said the case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Representation of the People Act following an investigation by the district video surveillance team.

“The video footage of the surveillance team was examined by the Patna District Administration. Following the investigation, an FIR has been registered against Shri Lalan Singh alias Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh under the relevant sections of the Indian Citizen Security Code and the Representation of the People Act,” the administration said in a post on X.

The controversy erupted after a video surfaced showing Lalan Singh allegedly instructing JD(U) workers to prevent opposition leaders from stepping out on polling day. “There are a few leaders—don’t let them step out of their homes on polling day. Keep them inside,” Singh is heard saying in the clip.

He added, “If they make a fuss, take them to vote and then send them home to rest.”

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) shared the video on social media, accusing Lalan Singh of violating election norms. RJD spokesperson Priyanka Bharti questioned the Election Commission’s silence, posting on X, “Will you wake up and verify the authenticity of this video showing such strongman behaviour?”

The remarks were reportedly made while Lalan Singh was campaigning for JD(U) candidate Anant Singh in Mokama, who is currently in Beur Jail in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dular Chand Yadav.

During the campaign, Lalan Singh told supporters, “We will not let the people of Mokama feel Anant Singh’s absence.”

Yadav, a campaigner for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, was shot dead during a clash between political groups. Following the incident, Anant Singh and two others were arrested in a large police operation involving over 150 personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

The Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 will take place in two phases — November 6 and 11 — with counting of votes scheduled for November 14. In the 2020 polls, the BJP secured 74 of 110 contested seats, while the JD(U) won 43 of 115, and the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) bagged 4 out of 7.
