Kolkata, 3rd Nov: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday said that the world is increasingly drawn to invest in India because of its strong democratic foundations and policy stability, which have enhanced global confidence in the country’s governance and growth trajectory.
Addressing the 125th Anniversary Celebrations of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata, themed “India@100: An Age of a New Dawn,” Birla said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is rapidly advancing toward becoming a global economic powerhouse.
He emphasized that India’s governance model of “minimum government, maximum governance” and reduced bureaucratic hurdles has created a fertile environment for industrial growth and innovation. Calling on private players to invest more in research and development, Birla said such efforts would be fully supported by the government, ensuring India’s rise as a leader in innovation and technology.
Praising the Bharat Chamber of Commerce for its 125-year legacy, the Speaker described it as an institution that has consistently upheld public good and corporate social responsibility, contributing immensely to India’s industrial and social advancement.
Highlighting India’s democratic resilience, Birla noted that the nation’s inclusive governance ensures continuity in policies and investor trust. “Democracy in India is not just a governance system—it’s a way of life deeply rooted in our social and cultural ethos,” he remarked, adding that the country’s democratic institutions are the backbone of its steady economic progress.
Speaking on inclusivity, the Speaker observed that women’s participation across sectors has grown substantially, making them pivotal to the vision of a developed and self-reliant India. He also lauded the contributions of youth and entrepreneurs, crediting them with driving innovation, creativity, and enterprise in modern India.
Birla reaffirmed India’s commitment to clean and green energy, calling it a “global hub” for sustainable solutions that address climate and environmental challenges. He urged greater collaboration among industry, government, and academia to strengthen the country’s self-reliant economic ecosystem.
Commending West Bengal’s historical role in India’s progress, Birla said the state has been a cradle of intellectual, cultural, and industrial excellence, producing leaders, thinkers, and innovators who have shaped modern India.
He concluded by expressing confidence that India’s collective strength—fueled by its democratic spirit, innovative minds, and resilient industries—will lead the nation into a new age of prosperity as it approaches 100 years of independence.
