Phalodi, 2nd Nov: At least 15 people were killed and three others injured after a bus collided with a parked trailer in Rajasthan’s Phalodi district on Sunday, police said.
The accident took place near Matoda village on the Bharat Mala Highway, around 400 kilometres from Jaipur. According to officials, the victims hailed from the Sursagar area of Jodhpur and were returning from the Kolayat temple in Bikaner after offering prayers at the Kapil Muni Ashram.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed deep grief over the tragedy and directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved families and ensure proper medical care for the injured.
“The loss of lives in the road accident in the Matoda area of Phalodi is extremely tragic and heart-rending. My condolences are with the bereaved families. Instructions have been given to ensure proper treatment for all the injured. I pray to the Lord to grant peace to the departed souls and a speedy recovery to the injured,” Sharma posted on X.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also condoled the loss of lives, describing the news as “extremely saddening.” “I pray to God to grant peace to the departed souls and strength to their families,” Gehlot wrote on X.
Rajasthan has witnessed a series of fatal bus accidents in recent weeks. In Jaisalmer last month, 26 passengers were charred to death after a sleeper bus caught fire due to an electrical short circuit. The incident prompted the transport department to initiate a statewide crackdown on illegally modified vehicles. Another bus fire late last month in Jaipur’s Manoharpur area claimed two lives and injured ten others after the vehicle came in contact with a power line.
