New Delhi, 1st Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a stampede at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
Taking to X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Pained by the stampede in Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon.”
He further announced that an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each would be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of those who lost their lives, while ₹50,000 would be given to those injured in the incident.
The tragic mishap occurred during a temple gathering, leading to multiple casualties and injuries. Rescue and medical teams were rushed to the site, and relief measures are underway.
