Cyclone Montha Kills 3 in Andhra, Naidu Announces ₹5 Lakh Aid

Amaravati, 30th Oct: Three people have died in Andhra Pradesh following the landfall of Cyclone Montha, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Thursday. Announcing an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh to each victim’s family, Naidu directed officials to restore normalcy across all affected regions on a war footing.

Preliminary reports reveal that the cyclone destroyed standing crops across 87,000 hectares, affecting nearly 78,800 farmers in 1,825 villages and killing 42 cattle. Naidu, who conducted an aerial survey and visited impacted areas, expressed displeasure over administrative lapses in Ongole and warned officials that negligence in relief operations would invite strict action.

The government has established 1,209 relief camps accommodating 1.16 lakh people and set up 2,130 medical camps. Traffic diversion was required on 297 roads due to flooding, while 380 trees were cleared by disaster response teams.

Cyclone Montha impacted 1.8 million people across 249 mandals, 1,434 villages, and 48 towns. The rural water supply suffered losses worth ₹36 crore, irrigation damage ₹16.45 crore, and roads and utilities over ₹1,424 crore. Naidu instructed officials to submit a crop loss report within five days and ensure full restoration of electricity and roads by Thursday.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan visited Avanigadda on Thursday to assess the situation and assured farmers of full government support.
