WASHINGTON –According to police in northern England on Monday has left local communities on edge as police appeal for help to trace a man suspected of a racially aggravated attack on a young woman believed to be of Indian origin.

Residents have been urged to take precautions while the suspect remains at large, and community leaders are calling for calm while supporting the victim

West Midlands Police confirmed that they were called to the Park Hall area of Walsall on Saturday evening after reports that a woman in her 20s appeared distressed in the street. Officers say the victim, believed to be Punjabi, was targeted in what they are treating as a “racially aggravated rape”.

Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer, who is leading the investigation, described the incident as “absolutely appalling” and said the police are leaving no stone unturned in their search for the attacker.

“We are doing absolutely everything we can to arrest the person responsible,” he said. “Our teams are gathering evidence, speaking to witnesses, and building a profile of the suspect so that he can be brought into custody as quickly as possible.”

Police released CCTV footage showed a white man in his 30s, with short hair and wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack, asked the public for any information.

“If you were in the area and saw anyone acting suspiciously, or have dashcam or CCTV footage that might help, please come forward,” Tyrer urged.

He added “Even small pieces of information could be the breakthrough we need.”

Local community groups expressed alarm at the attack, especially as it came shortly after another racially motivated assault nearby.

Sikh Federation UK quoted sources confirmed that the victim is a Punjabi woman and noted that she was reportedly attacked in her own home, with the suspect allegedly breaking down her door.

“This is the second racially aggravated rape involving young women in their 20s that West Midlands Police have investigated in recent weeks,” the federation said.

“The urgency to identify those responsible cannot be overstated.”

The police are not officially linking this incident to the earlier attack in Old bury, they acknowledged that the community is naturally anxious.
