Rajasthan SDM Suspended Over Slapping CNG Pump Staff in Bhilwara

Jaipur, 24th Oct: The Rajasthan government has suspended a state civil service officer after a video surfaced on social media showing him slapping a CNG pump staffer in Bhilwara. The incident, which quickly went viral, has sparked widespread criticism.

According to officials, the Department of Personnel issued an order late Thursday night suspending Chhotu Lal Sharma, who was serving as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Pratapgarh. The suspension order cited “administrative reasons,” and stated that Sharma would remain attached to the Secretariat, Personnel Department, in Jaipur during the suspension period.

The controversy erupted after CCTV footage from Wednesday showed Sharma engaging in a heated argument with employees at the CNG pump. The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation, with both the SDM and a staff member seen slapping each other following a dispute over refuelling priority.

Police officials confirmed that three petrol pump employees — Deepak Mali, Prabhu Lal Kumawat, and Raja Sharma — have been arrested in connection with the incident. Further investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events and the responsibility of those involved.

The video’s circulation on social media prompted immediate administrative action and raised questions about conduct and accountability among public officials.
