Patna, 23rd Oct:
Political tensions escalated in Bihar on Wednesday after reports emerged that RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav would be the Chief Ministerial face of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) for the upcoming state elections. The announcement sparked sharp reactions from the NDA camp, with leaders from JD(U) and BJP ridiculing the move, calling it “desperate” and “directionless.”

JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said, “No matter how hard the Mahagathbandhan tries, it cannot improve its standing. The NDA’s victory march is far ahead, and the alliance is nowhere to be seen. Whether Tejashwi becomes the face or not, they will lose the elections.”

Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal also hit out at the opposition, saying, “People of Bihar are closely watching the activities of political parties. The Mahagathbandhan is riddled with internal conflict. They can claim unity, but the public knows that a coalition unable to divide seats cannot run a government.”

Commenting on reports of friction between the RJD and Congress, Jaiswal added, “When Tejashwi Yadav met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, the way Rahul treated him showed that Congress doesn’t want RJD to rise above it. Their partnership is built on mistrust.”

Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel maintained a cautious tone, saying, “Wait for the press conference to see what unfolds.” He also criticized the Election Commission, alleging it had lost credibility: “The EC should have convened a meeting with all political parties regarding election preparedness. It’s functioning like a department under the central government.”

RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari expressed confidence in Yadav’s leadership, declaring, “In Bihar, it’s Tejashwi everywhere. The people have already accepted him as their Chief Minister. The rest is just a formality.”

The Mahagathbandhan is expected to hold a press conference later today to formally announce Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate.
